Welcome to the Turlock Sports Park Inclusive Sports Camp! This camp is designed to provide a supportive, fun, and inclusive environment for children on the spectrum, with mental handicaps, or who are neurodivergent. Our goal is to offer a community-focused sports program that emphasizes participation, social interaction, and enjoyment in a safe and judgment-free setting. This camp is all about making the kids feel part of a team and giving them a true team sports experience. We are super excited to offer this program, thanks to the help of many volunteers and the community's voice expressing the need for such programs.

Camp Outline:

Week 1: Introduction and Basic Motor Skills

During the first week, we will focus on introducing basic motor skills and getting comfortable with movement. The sessions will include gentle warm-ups with stretches and simple movements such as marching in place and basic gross motor skills like dancing and jumping. Children will participate in balancing exercises, simple ball skills, and fun movement games such as "Simon Says" and parachute games. Each session will end with a cool-down period, where kids can share encouraging words and discuss what they enjoyed.

Week 2: Introducing Team Sports

In the second week, the focus shifts to introducing team sports. The first session will cover basic soccer skills, including dribbling, passing, and participating in a modified soccer game that emphasizes inclusion. The second session will introduce football, where children will practice running drills, throwing, and small-sided games with simple rules. Both sessions will begin with warm-ups and end with cool-downs and reflections on what they liked about each sport.

Week 3: Exploring Individual and Team Sports

Week three will explore both individual and team sports. One session will feature track and field activities such as gentle running, short sprints, long jumps, obstacle courses, and relay races designed for mixed abilities. The other session will introduce baseball, where children will practice hitting a ball off a tee, running bases, and engaging in a modified baseball game with simplified rules. Each session will start with a warm-up and conclude with a cool-down and a discussion on participation and hand-eye coordination.

Week 4: Fun and Celebration

The final week is all about fun and celebration. On the first day, children will enjoy a "Fun Day" where they can choose their favorite sports to practice, participate in small games, and take pictures for "Picture Day." The second day will feature a mix of games from the camp, adapted to ensure all children can participate, followed by a "Camp Olympics." The week will end with a cool-down, an awards ceremony, and the handing out of trophies, medals, and participation certificates to celebrate their achievements.
